Spotify has a playlist featuring new recommendations called “Discover Weekly”.
If you’re like me, you’ve seen it for a while, but thought, “Why do I want to listen to a playlist about space?”, alluded to by the astronaut picture. Seriously, what’s up with that?
If you follow discover weekly, those songs will automatically get added to your SongLytics library.
Getting past the album art, the idea behind it is pretty cool. Spotify will give you a fresh playlist of songs it believes you’ll enjoy once a week. For me, the songs haven’t been spot on, but some of them are pretty good. (Sidebar, it never adds a rap song. Ever. I personally think their algorithm isn’t setup for someone who like more than one genre.) While I get these new tracks, I don’t want to have to check all of them or add them to one of my playlists.
Using Playlist Maker for Spotify on Android and have, say, an “Unlistened to” advanced playlist, these songs will automatically get added every Tuesday.
I’ve added a feature to SongLytics so that it will scan your playlists and check songs every Tuesday. This way, if you follow discover weekly, those songs will automatically get added to your SongLytics library. Then, if you are using Playlist Maker for Spotify on Android and have, say, an Unlistened To an advanced playlist, these songs will automatically get added every Tuesday. This way, you’ll be able to discover new songs automatically.
Constantly adding new music to your SongLytics library isn’t something everyone wants. If that’s you, then steer clear of the Discover Weekly playlist when using SongLytics with Spotify. If you’re interested in rating some songs one star and skipping others; to remove them from the Unlistened To playlist, then Discover Weekly + SongLytics is for you!
